Your Galaxy phone must contain a lot of important data. If it was broken, stolen, or you dropped it by accident, what would you lose? Your Galaxy phone must be filled with valuable contacts, messages, photos, videos, music and documents, losing the phone data can be as disastrous as suffering through a hard drive crash on a proper PC. That’s why it’s important that you should backup your phone as regularly and carefully as you backup your other devices.
Samsung has its own software Kies for backing up Galaxy phone on PC or Mac. By connecting your Galaxy phone via USB to your computer, open the Kies, it will detect that your Galaxy phone is connected and display an icon for your Galaxy phone along with information about how much free space you have left. Along the top, you’ll see a row of tabs. Simply click “Backup/Restore” and check the box at the top for all items, or select certain items, such as contacts, messages, or photos to backup.
However, the data backed up by Kies can’t be viewed intuitively on computer because it was saved in .sbu format and no software can open the .sbu file directly, you can only restore the .sbu file with Samsung Kies. If you need to extract specific data from Kies backup file, Samsung Kies is not an ideal tool. In this circumstance, you can use Android Data Transfer to backup your Galaxy phone music, videos, photos, playlists, camera roll, ringtone, messages, contacts, calendar, call history and bookmarks to PC or Mac.
